for the birds

That's my little friend Mrs. Momma Bird. She likes her box so much she laid eggs.

They are so tiny, about the size of a nickel.  She has them so far in the back of the nest that it is hard to get a good picture. They are a translucent cream color with brown speckles.  I sure hope they hatch soon. I want to see the tiny baby birds.

Mrs. Momma Bird inspired us to get a bird bath. I've been talking about getting one for a few months and Byron surprised me with one on Saturday. His grand romantic gesture, he calls it.

Since the birds now have a house and a bath, I figured I needed to hang my hummingbird feeder too. I made some nectar (4 cups water and 1 cup sugar, boiled and cooled). We are now anxiously awaiting our first bathers and hummingbirds.

  1. At the house I grew up in, we had a mourning dove lay her eggs in a nest in our front porch. She and her babies continued the "tradition" and for about 6 years straight we've always had doves nest and hatch in our porch. It was so beautiful to watch, I used to take so many photos of the babies!

  2. momma bird is cute! beautiful hummingbird feeder too!
