It's that time of year again. Time to celebrate the many hard-working laboratory scientists. It's Medical Laboratory Professionals Week. If you remember, I did Lab Week nails last year. They were a big hit! My favorite design from last year was the differential nail. As a laboratory scientist, I spend at least one day a week at the microscope counting cells. The little red blood cells look like pink cheerios. They come in different shapes depending on the condition of the patient. We count and differentiate the white blood cells into categories in order to give the doctors a good idea of a diagnosis. I painted my nails to resemble what we see when we look at a stained blood smear. Now you have some idea of what a Laboratory Scientist does and a little view into our world. Now go hug a Medical Laboratory Professional and wish them a Happy Lab Week!
