date day

The stars aligned for Byron and I. He won baseball tickets and I had a day off work to go with him to the game! We had such an amazing day. The tickets were incredible- right behind home plate. I don't really care for baseball on TV, but in person (and so close) it was pretty exciting.

Also, Miller Park is food heaven! We started with brats and ended with nachos.

People in Milwaukee sure do love their Brewers. For a noon day game- the place was packed. It kind of left me wondering who was running the city if everyone was at the park.

Bernie Brewer gets to go down this slide whenever they hit a home run. It's pretty funny.

We took a walk around the park, mainly to check out all the food options, and stopped by the club (Byron wins all the best stuff) for the view.

This is everyone's favorite part, the sausage race.

That's them. They are racing sausages. Here you see the bratwurst in the lead, with the chorizo right on his tail. There is also an Italian sausage, a Polish sausage and a hot dog. I always thought they kinda ran for fun- but these guys were flying. Sausages don't play.

And the best part- the Brewers won! It was all kinds of exciting. Bases loaded, crowd on their feet. Cheers and fireworks. I hope we can go back soon!
Go Brewers!!!

kid in a candy store

If you drive from Wisconsin to Ohio, you pass through Merrillville, Indiana. This is important, as there is a candy factory where gummy bears are made in a gingerbread house. No, really. I read about this place in the latest issue of Midwest Living (it's like Southern Living- but in the midwest). Seriously. The best gummy candies ever!

This road trip pit stop is no disappointment. So much candy. All kinds of candy. Cheap candy. Really good candy. Normal gummies, mess-up gummies, salted caramels, and old fashioned candies are all for sale at the Albanese candy factory and outlet. We went a little nuts!

My favorites were these mess-up caramel coated marshmallows. Apparently the caramel was a bit too hard for Albanese standards. I found no such problems- they were amazing, like pillows of chewy perfection.

If you find yourself in Merrillville, Indiana, pull over and fill up on candy. The gummies really are the best!

They ship their candy too (with ice packs- lest the chocolate melts). I recommend the salted caramels and all varieties of gummies. Come on, you know you want some!

chihuahua beauty contest

Poor Mimi, she had a rough winter. She's an old dog, but she's sweet. Please, please, please help her out and give her your votes in the Milwaukee Taco Fest Chihuahua Beauty Contest. If she wins, she would become the official mascot of this years taco fest. She needs all the encouragement she can get. Her given name is Rosy, so vote accordingly. Here is the link

Thank you for your support. Rosy would lick your face if she could.

my daughter dresses better than me: presents

Presents are the best, especially presents from super stylish family members. My cousin-in-law, Jordan, sent Alice this adorable outfit. Coincidently, Jordan also sent me this dress that has become a wardrobe staple. She found it at Buffalo Exchange, which is like thrifting vintage heaven. If you have one near you, go check it out!

My mom found these cute little bows for Alice. She's a good girl to share them with me.

Even my shoes were a present (DSW gift card) from my mother-in-law. It's a good thing we have so many stylish ladies in our lives to keep us well fashioned.

mothers and all

My family is a really fun bunch. We like to eat and we are loud and pretty silly. My parents were in town recently and we got together with my grandparents for a meal and playtime.

Alice loves all her grandmothers. Great-grandma makes the best treats and Grandma plays night-night real well.

I told you we were silly! Now you know where I get it from.

Happy Mother's day Mom, and Grandma and all you other mommas.

I cannot express, in words, the joy that Kopps brings me. It's the best! Like, the best of the best! There is no other 'ice cream' quite like Kopps custard. It's creamy and rich and their flavors!!! It's time I let you in on my Kopps obsession.

1. They release their monthly flavor list on the 1st of every month. Each day has two flavors.
2. I write in my calendar which days are custard days- the must-get, can't-miss flavors.
3. If by some twist of fate, we can't get there on a custard day, (this is a Kopps secret- so don't go telling everyone) you can still buy a pint the day after (they save the leftover deliciousness).

Byron actually made fun of me for taking these pictures. We are there all the time. Now, lest you think all this custard eating is putting on the pounds. I have a theory about that too.

1. Why order dessert at a restaurant when there is Kopps.
2. Why buy grocery store ice cream when there is Kopps.
3. Why make cookies, pie or cakes when there is Kopps.
Now you see.

Byron is such a good dad to share his Kopps. This was strawberry cheesecake. The scoop at the top is their Bunny Hop (raspberry and marshmallow with Chambord and chocolate chunks).

This is the typical all gone, no-more-Kopps, sad face. Until the next custard day, of course.

birthday boy

One year ago, I became and Aunt to this dude. He is such a handsome little man, and quite a flirt. We had such a wonderful time spent with family over the weekend, but the highlight was definitely JP's birthday party!

It was all baseball snacks and little boy fun. Cake smash and presents and kids running everywhere. Mr. Redlegs even stopped by for picture taking and led us all in singing Happy Birthday to a mesmerized JP. It was perfect!

Also, these little matching Raphael shirts on his proud parents!

Alice was very sweet with JP. They really liked each other.

Happy Birthday, Little Slugger! Oh, and Go Reds!
(and Go Brewers!)

nails of the week: karou

If you will permit me to lavish praise upon my current obsession, The Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Days of Blood and Starlight. Dreams of Gods and Monsters. All written by goddess of words, Laini Taylor. I can't even tell you how much I love this YA fantasy series. The third book came out mid-April. I've never done this before, but I went back and read the first two books before starting the last one. I really want to savor the story, appreciate the effort and the beauty of how the words are put together. I read them on my phone, so I can highlight my favorite parts and quotes and things. You know, basically the whole of each book because they are that awesome! Now I have to come to the hard part...letting go. I have roughly 100 pages left in Dreams of Gods and Monsters and although I really want to know what happens, I'm just not quite ready to leave the worlds (not a typo). Just know that by the time you are reading this I will have come to the end of the story and will be in a full-on book hangover. At least my nails will remind me of hope and smoke and bone and magic. Those, I will take with me.

Karou means hope. Karou is also the main character of the story. She has blue hair. A trivial wish made it so. I used every blue hued polish I own to create a Karou-like manicure. I started with a base of Blue me away (far left). Then I used a tiny nail brush to paint on messy lines of all the other blues. A thin coat of teal glitter on top- for magic.

I have to include this quote, just so you can glimpse how beautiful these books are.

She tastes like nectar and salt. Nectar and salt and apples. Pollen and stars and hinges. She tastes like fairy tales. Swan maiden at midnight. Cream on the tip of a foxes tongue. She tastes like hope.
